How much does a notary cost in Kansas?
Kansas doesn’t set a maximum notary fee anymore; the old cap was repealed on January 1, 2022. We charge per signature for a standard notarization in our Wichita office, mobile visits add a travel fee based on distance, and after-hours calls carry a premium. We quote the total before we start. Can I walk in, or do I need an appointment?
Walk in. During store hours, Monday through Saturday 9am to 9pm, you don’t need an appointment for a standard notarization. Bring your unsigned document and a valid photo ID. Appointments are for mobile visits, loan signings, online sessions, and anything after hours.
How long does an apostille take?
For a Kansas-issued document, the Secretary of State in Topeka usually takes a few business days, so plan on two to four weeks start to finish including shipping. Other states run from a few days to several weeks. Federal documents through the U.S. Department of State take longer. Government processing time isn’t something we control, so we won’t promise a date the state hasn’t given us, but our Rush and Expedited tiers move everything on our end to the front of the line.
Is online notarization legal in Kansas?
Yes. Remote online notarization has been legal in Kansas since January 1, 2022 under K.S.A. 53-5a15, and it carries the same legal weight as a notarization done across the counter. The law requires us to verify your identity two independent ways, record the session on video, and keep that recording for at least ten years. Some documents and some receiving parties still insist on wet ink; if yours does, we’ll tell you before you book.
What ID do I need?
A valid, unexpired government photo ID: driver’s license, state ID, passport, or military ID. Don’t sign the document before you get here; we have to watch you sign it. If you don’t have ID, call 316-265-9930 and ask about credible witnesses. There’s usually a way through.
Do you do apostilles for documents from other states?
Yes, all 50 states plus DC, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and federal documents through the U.S. Department of State.
