Why You Might Need an Apostilled Divorce Decree
An apostilled divorce decree is often required by foreign countries to verify your marital status. Depending on the country, additional documents such as an apostilled birth certificate and/or background check may be necessary for further verification.
Divorce decrees can be obtained from the Office of Vital Records in the county court where the divorce was filed. If you were represented by an attorney, they should have provided you with a certified copy of the divorce decree. If not, they can obtain it on your behalf or direct you to an appropriate agency.
APB Notary & Apostille can process apostilles for divorce decrees issued in all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. Depending on the country, a translation of the divorce decree may also be required. Please contact us for assistance with finding a certified translator.
Important Information
If the country requesting the apostille is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, an apostille will be issued. For non-member countries, a special authentication through the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C., followed by legalization through the Embassy/Consulate office, will be necessary.
Obtaining an apostille can be complex. To avoid delays and errors, trust APB Notary & Apostille to handle the apostille for your divorce decree efficiently.
